Planning Phase

What is a current real-world problem that needs to be solved? How will you create your invention? How will it solve the problem?

This is a project that will be viewed by kids across the globe! Because of this, you will need to make sure you plan your invention so that anyone would be able to understand what it does.

Using our research about inventors and their inventions, think of a current problem in our world right now.

Here are some questions you can ask yourself to brainstorm:

  1. Why is this problem such a big deal?

  2. What could you create that could solve this problem? What would the invention be able to do to help fix this problem?

  3. What would your invention look like? What important parts would be necessary in order for your invention to work?

  4. How would your invention change our lives for the better?

You Have the Choice!

You will be able to decide if you want to plan this invention alone or with a small group. If you choose a group, the group can be no larger than four students. Think about all of the things you will need to plan and decide how you want to plan them.

You will be responsible for:

+ Stating a real-world problem

+ Planning an invention to solve this problem
+ Sketching what your invention will look like
+ Labeling a diagram of your invention
+ Describing your invention and how it solves your problem
+ Naming your invention and marketing it to others

Plan your invention alone or with a group.

Sketching and Labeling Your Invention

How Will Your Invention Work?

You can't just make up supplies for this invention, like a floating car that runs on magic! You need to think of real materials that exist now that could come together to make something new. When you sketch your invention, you will make a diagram like the one on this page detailing the different parts that will make your invention work.

+ What materials will you need?

+ How will the materials come together to make your invention?
+ Would people need additional materials for the invention to work (like batteries or a charger)?

What Will Your Invention Look Like?

You want to create something that people will be able to use easily. This can be a lot of fun because the design can be completely your own. You will want to make something that looks good so people will want to buy it!

+ How big will it be?

+ What colors will be used?
+ Where will the name of the invention go?

This is an example of a diagram describing an invention you would create.
